Hi, I’m Sam, my husband Martin and I moved from the UK to Australia in September 2024 with our two children, who were 6 and 10 at the time.

Back in the UK, I worked as a nurse and Martin owned a successful manufacturing business. We had a great life, good jobs, a lovely home, and close friends and family — but somehow, something was missing. We wanted a better work-life balance. More time together as a family. More time with our children. And, most importantly, a secure and exciting future for them. Australia had never been at the top of our list of places to move to. But as a nurse, I knew that registering to work in Australia and obtaining sponsorship was a possibility.

That was it. We made the decision.

We sold our family home, our car and most of what we owned, packed up our lives and moved to the other side of the world. When we arrived, we didn't know a single person. We started out in an Airbnb for a couple of months, travelling up and down the coast and exploring different suburbs, trying to figure out where might eventually feel like "home." Once we'd narrowed it down to a smaller area, we started looking for a rental property.

And then came another shock.

We found ourselves competing with several other applicants for every property we applied for. Application after application was rejected, and there were moments when we genuinely wondered whether we would ever find somewhere to call home. Eventually, we got the call we'd been waiting for — our application had been accepted.

We were over the moon.

For the first time since leaving the UK, we felt a little bit of security. The children were thrilled to finally have their own rooms again, and we could start creating a home. Then came the next challenge: getting our furniture out of storage and into the house. Money was tight. We'd barely been working for a couple of months, so hiring removalists wasn't an option. Instead, Martin and I spent hours struggling to move heavy furniture and boxes ourselves, trying to turn an empty house into our new home. Our children were amazing throughout it all. They were patient, understanding and incredibly resilient. But there was one thing we really missed.

Family.

We missed having grandparents nearby to take the children for a couple of hours while we figured things out. We missed having someone on the ground who could lend a hand, offer advice, or simply be there when everything felt a little overwhelming.

And that's where the idea for Sunshine Family Concierge was born.

We created Sunshine Family Concierge to provide families with the support we wish we'd had when we first arrived. Because moving across the world is a huge feat in itself. Families shouldn't have to navigate every little challenge alone. Whether it's helping you settle into your new home, taking care of those jobs that are difficult to organise from afar, or simply being a friendly pair of feet on the ground — we're here to make your transition smoother.
